In SEO, as everyone knows, it's Google that sets the rules!
As we previously explained, there are several search engine algorithms for Google. These algorithms are constantly evolving, adapting to user behaviors.
And right now... a major update is underway...! 👇
The New Update
Google is part of our lives, and many of our searches revolve around the famous question;
"I don't know, ask Google."
Since August 2022, Google has introduced a new algorithm update: the "helpful content" update.
This is part of a broader action plan by the search engine, aimed at highlighting sites with original, relevant, and human-centered content.
Google's Recommendations
The best SEO practices are still recommended by Google. However, regarding this update, Google provides specific recommendations such as;
- Creating content that highlights specific expertise
- Satisfying the reader during their reading experience
- Adequately educating your readers
You can find all the recommendations in Google's official article. However, it is important to note that Google is promoting collective intelligence and now prioritizes answers to "How to" questions.
Content to Avoid
It is quite clear from the documentation that you should avoid (even cease) creating content specifically designed for search engines. In short, say goodbye to "SEO hacks".
Google advises against;
- AI-generated content
- Having a broad content strategy instead of focusing on a specific area of expertise
- Content that does not meet the user's needs, forcing them to conduct a second search for a complete answer
- Adding words "to please Google"
- Unofficial information
⚠️ Content deemed useless by Google will have a negative impact on the ranking of your entire site. Google thus recommends, in some cases, removing content that does not provide added value to users but was created solely for the purpose of "SEO hacking".
Conclusion
This update aims to limit the creation of content designed for search engines and encourage the creation of authentic, more human content.
The approach to adopt is therefore;
- To avoid over-optimization,
- To refrain from producing "mass" content and instead focus on a more qualitative strategy in a niche market,
- To encourage the sharing of high-value information for your site's readers.
