Key points

You have probably already seen, read, and maybe even used them! I’m talking about comment sections, often found at the bottom of blog posts. These elements are frequently plugins (or JavaScript extensions).

In this article, we explain (1) why to add comments to your blog, (2) our selection of the best tools, both free and paid.

Why set up a comment system on your blog?

Do you have a blog on your website? (WordPress, Webflow, or Drupal?) Then you have two good reasons to implement a comment system on your articles.

Foster interaction with your readers and community

  • Engage your readers and increase the time spent on the page if new comments add value.
  • Some comments can inspire ideas for future content. For example, responding to a question posed by a reader?
  • By engaging in discussions with people, you enhance your credibility. You show your audience that you're willing to back up your statements with facts.

Improve your SEO!

Yes, in three ways:

  1. By increasing the time users spend on your page (an important metric for SEO ranking)
  2. By adding more content and keywords if the comments are relevant
  3. Comments are a living part of your pages; they help refresh and update your content, which Google loves fresh content

3 "plugins" to easily integrate into your site

No matter your CMS (WordPress, Wix, Drupal, Webflow), there is either a plugin or a JavaScript embed to easily integrate a comment solution into your blog articles. But which one should you use?

1) Disqus

Disqus is certainly the most widely used extension (plugin) on websites worldwide.

Advantages ✅

  • Simple to install
  • Globally recognized

Drawbacks ❌

  • Advertisements
  • Tracks user data from your site
  • Cost

2) Commento.io

This solution is lightweight and optimized for the performance of your website. It only requires 11kb of JavaScript code to function, so it won’t bog down your site’s performance!

Advantages ✅

  • Simple to install
  • Google Core Vital compliant
  • Cost-effective

Drawbacks ❌

  • Limited features (no emoji reactions, for example)

3) Hyvor.talk

The latest addition to our selection is our favorite! Developed by an Indian company, this solution is currently what we have implemented on our site. It offers numerous customization options at a reasonable price. We are truly satisfied with its appearance, especially the emojis 😍

Advantages ✅

  • Simple to install
  • Google Core Vital compliant
  • Almost entirely customizable in CSS

Drawbacks ❌

  • Links in comments are UGC* (Haven't found a way to make them nofollow yet?)
  • A slight bug with text responsiveness on small mobile devices
  • No free version

* Inspired by Semrush's definition of UGC links: The UGC attribute (User Generated Content) allows webmasters to indicate editorially that they do not endorse specific hyperlinks on their site. Furthermore, the UGC attribute informs Google that the link is in user-generated content, such as a comment or forum post. It adds another layer of information for Google and indicates that the link is not part of affiliate marketing.

3. Can we change tools mid-way?

That’s a good question! What if we want to change our feedback collection tool midway? Will all the feedback be lost?

The answer is no! The tools on our list offer you a way to automatically extract all comments from your website to a location of your choice, even if it’s a competitor’s tool. (Thanks to an API or a Webhook)
