Key points

After a great year in 2021, 2022 kicks off strong for Webflow with the release this month of three new features!

  1. Enhanced CMS performance
  2. Create "CSS Outlines" directly in the designer tool
  3. "So where are you on Webflow?"

In this article, we gather all the important updates of the month on one page. (If you want more news about no-code, web, and Webflow → Digidop's Blog)

1. A CMS 15x Faster

Yes, really, 15x faster. If you're using Webflow, you likely have a CMS with collections. This could include blog posts for your content strategy, products for your online sales, or other purposes!

Webflow designer interface with CMS collection items

A "large" CMS means a lot of data, which can lead to software slowdowns. For bigger Webflow sites, loading times could be lengthy for:

  • Opening the designer
  • Publishing the site
  • Switching pages
  • Loading collections/items

But that was then. Webflow's announcements on this subject are backed by impressive statistics. I quote:

· Loading projects in the Designer up to 15 times faster
· 5 times less RAM usage to access or modify collection data
· 6 times less RAM usage, reducing crashes in the Designer
· 86 times less bandwidth needed to load larger projects (wow!)

And it doesn’t stop there. Webflow has clearly understood the importance of having the most powerful and fastest site possible to optimize SEO visibility for its no-code websites, as well as the need for a functional and fast platform for no-code developers like us.

How to enable this new update? No updates are required; it’s automatic.

Welcome to the world of no-code

2. Improve Your Website's Accessibility with: CSS Outlines

Web accessibility is a crucial topic. Over 1 billion people experience disabilities on the web. Learn more by reading our article on this subject: Making Your Website Inclusive for Web Accessibility!

CSS outline feature in Webflow designer

This new feature enhances web accessibility by allowing you to add a style around each element when the "keyboard focus" feature is activated, for instance. (So that users navigating with a keyboard rather than a mouse can find their way on your page.)

What’s the big advantage over a border?

  • A border adds to the element (and thus may shift or alter your design)
  • A CSS outline is a line drawn around the elements

Thus, there’s no impact on your design, no shifting; all elements will remain perfectly aligned. Even with the presence of "borders," they will be outside the element.

3. Webflow Becomes a More Collaborative Tool

Today, a Webflow site is at the heart of the strategy for many companies (from startups to large corporations). Therefore, we often need to work on the tool simultaneously. Certain features, like the ability to log in with multiple users in the designer at the same time, are still eagerly awaited. However, Webflow is moving in the right direction with a new collaboration feature on the tool!

This new feature enables you to see who is where and who is doing what. This is very practical for quickly understanding if issues are already being addressed and to avoid duplications, for instance.

Conclusion on This Month's Webflow News

This month, Webflow revealed 3 new features that have made the no-code tool:

  1. More performant
  2. More accessible
  3. More collaborative
